The first half of the book was very interesting
Serendipity discovery does favor the prepared mind; you have to be alert to "see" significance when an experiment seems to "fail" For a chemist, maybe the accidental discovery by a few wacky chemists playing around in a lab and by happenstance breaking a double nitrogen bond is riveting reading, but for the general reader, it was too much

In the middle, the author spent a bit too much time in his area of expertise, chemistry.

Science is endlessly intriguing and fascinating to me and this book takes a pretty good stab at explaining one common and important pathway for discovery - serendipity! If I were able to re write this book I would include a few more concepts from the philosophy of science not just the history and the way that industry feeds into science and is fed by new discoveries

As it is, I feel I have a better understanding of science
السرنديبية: اكتشافات علمية وليدة الصدفة
Science is endlessly intriguing and fascinating to me and this book takes a pretty good stab at explaining one common and important pathway for discovery - serendipity! Although it has dated somewhat, and the latter chapters seem overly concerned with chemistry, the book as a whole holds together as an example of how scientific thinking is done to discover new things
The discovery of penicillin, however, was serendipitous because it was recognized for its antibiotic properties immediately
And we owe a debt to accident for some of our deepest scientific knowledge, including Newton's theory of gravitation, the Big Bang theory of Creation, and the discovery of DNA Chance favours the prepared mind

It is actually good if you're interested in scientific discoveries especially in the chemical field.

Had I read this 30 years ago, I might have become a scientist
Serendipity: Accidental Discoveries in Science by Royston M. Roberts
The serendipitous moments in the middle of the book that focused on chemistry were less fun and interesting and made me think, "they were chemists who were experimenting and found something
